To say that I interviewed Shawn Marom feels quaint. Because, as we sat down on the curb outside after Cryogeyser’s March 11th show at Mohawk, before headliner Nothing, I felt only the pureness of girlhood. Kicking our feet, giggling out loud, almost oblivious of the microphone awaiting its turn to capture. If I could snuggle up under a feathery blanket, wear silly pajamas and eat a pint of ice cream with the singer-songwriter, I would. But I’d say this is pretty close.
Grab some comfy clothes and a favorite snack; you’re invited to our sleepover.

I first want to recap how the Europe tour at the end of last year went for you.
The European tour was really fun. It was weird. I’ve been to Europe a lot, and I swore I wouldn’t go back unless I had something useful to do and it felt just as good as I thought it would. It felt really great to be working there and kind of going from place to place and being in a different country every day. It was pretty crazy.
Did you have a favorite country/city that you went to?
Paris was amazing. The show was amazing. Berlin, I think, was one of my favorite shows, and I love Berlin. It’s so fun. We definitely stayed up all night. Not the best idea.
Did you go out to any clubs?
My band at that time was very young, so we went to a club that only young tourists go to, but it was kind of funny. It was fun.
Do you remember what it was called?
Tresor.
I’ve been to Tresor!
It sucks! It sucks. Sorry, Tresor.
I went to KitKatClub and that one…
That one’s weird. I’ve never been to KitKatClub. I don’t know if I’m the type.
I don’t know if I was either.
Touring with Nothing around the U.S., this being the 7th show, how has it kicked off?
I forgot it’s been seven shows. Nothing is so sweet, so real. It’s really cool to see a band do it for so long and get better and better. And, yeah, just so generous with their time and with bringing us on this tour. So it’s been really fun.
When you say you forget it’s been seven shows, why is that?
It’s been going fast, and then also on tour, it’s really hard to remember what day of the week it is because you’re not doing anything that’s normal. You’re just eating and driving and eating and driving. Playing. Eating. Driving. So, yeah, I forgot. I don’t know what day of the week it is at all right now.
I feel like you’ve been on so many tours.
I know. It’s been a while since I’ve done this long of one.
Do you ever get homesick?
Not really. I love moving around. At home, I’m kind of a hermit. So this is the most I get out.
Do you think you’re going to move out of L.A.?
I’ll never move out of LA. Unless I get a European husband.
[Both] That is the dream.
Your newer songs feel pretty in tune with Nothing, though the older songs might feel a little contrasted. How do you think you complement Nothing, Full Body 2 and the other bands on the tour?
I think we’re kind of like The Cranberries, where we fit on every bill, but it’s kind of just music that’s really true to what’s going on at that moment. I’m not really locked into a genre, is how I feel. Kind of like The Cranberries. I mean, The Cranberries have a genre, but I feel like- or Cocteau Twins, you’d see them on any bill. You could see them on a hardcore bill. You could see them on an alt-rock bill. I feel like the Cryogeyser fits into many different worlds.
Slide Away Fest! With Hum! And Chapterhouse, but Hum! That feels amazing. We got that offer before the Nothing Tour, and then getting the Nothing Tour was also really cool, but I’m so honored to play Slide Away. As an LA kid, playing at the Hollywood Palladium is pretty cool.
Did you know or have a personal connection with Nothing beforehand?
No. We were just Instagram friends.
Is this going to be the first festival show?
First festival in the U.S that’s big.
Do you have a dream festival show?
Coachella! Just because I’m an LA kid. I want to play this festival in Denmark called Roskilde. That’s my dream. It’s really cool. It’s really big.
You’ve got to play ACL!
Yeah, Austin City Limits. I just want to play all of them.
I know you’ve been playing tracks from your self-titled and your debut album. Is there new music in the works?
There’s some new music in the works. The second song I played tonight was new. I’m trying to figure out how to make the next album. That always takes some time and some work.

Are you thinking in terms of another full-length album right now, or just writing and seeing where things go?
I’m kind of a full-length album person. Or a single, but like a classic single where it’s like two songs, three songs, maybe a remix. I would love to make an album. I love to immerse myself in what I’m doing.
Do you prefer concept albums?
I don’t really have any concept albums. I feel like mine are all the same album over and over again. “Why did you leave me? Where are you now?” Everyone can relate. Everyone can relate to loss and love.
Cheers to that.
[Both] Prost!
Do you think you’re going to stick to a direction?
I don’t know yet. I think for the next album, I’m really trying to get people I respect to collaborate on it. I’ve really done most of the stuff myself or with whoever’s in my band. But really, resourcing and kind of getting my most talented friends on it and seeing what we can do together.
Who was playing with you tonight?
Tory and Olivia. Angels.
I loved that during ‘Leach,’ whenever you were singing ‘I love you,’ you were smiling at Olivia. It was so cute.
I love her. She’s an angel. We met because her band, her old band, opened up for Cryogeyser last time we toured. Then both of our bands kind of fell apart, and she joined my band and saved my world. And so did Tory.
Are there any artists/records/songs that have been influencing you recently?
I love emo music. I listen to this band Counterfit a lot. I love Hum. I think I listen to Jimmy Eat World every day, it’s a sickness. I don’t know. I have a wide range of music listening. Most of it is old, but I’m going to put on the best band from LA, Draag. Draag’s new album is so good. It’s just so comprehensive. You should definitely listen to it.
Are you somebody who says ‘Oh, I wish I were born in the 70s…’?
Absolutely not. I feel like only Gen Z does that. Do you really want to be born with zero rights to your body? Nostalgia is great and all, but at least we live in 2026, where we can fight back against what’s happening. Or try to, at least.
What are you hoping the next year for Cryogeyser looks like?
Touring 24-7 and making an album. I’d love to be busy. That would be really nice.
Do you work better under pressure?
Yes. Yes, the pressure works for me.

Afterwards, we hugged each other tightly, said our goodbyes, took a multitude of pictures and promised to see each other in Austin again soon. I think that I physically skipped away down the street – if I can call it that. To me, all I saw was sunshine and rainbows. Love you, forever. Thank you for co-hosting this slumber party with me.
